Vucevic Looking Forward to NBA London Battle

Orlando Magic centre, Nikola Vucevic is looking forward to his first London experience, as he prepares to face the Toronto Raptors at the O2 Arena in January.

Vucevic and the Magic are having one of their best campaigns of recent years, currently sitting seventh in a hotly contested Eastern Conference, and he’s relishing the chance to take to the court at the O2.

“I’ve never been to London or England so it’ll be my first time going there. I’m looking forward to it. I think it’ll be a great experience for us and I think the fans will accept us there”.

Standing in Orlando’s way will be one of the stronger Eastern Conference teams in the Toronto Raptors, who themselves have made the trip to London previously, featuring in a double-header against the then New Jersey Nets back in 2011 – and Vucevic knows the quality they’ll be facing.

“Toronto are in our conference, they’re one of the best teams fighting for the top spots in the East and we’re trying to prove ourselves this year.

“We have to make sure to take it as a business trip and not as a tourist trip where we just go to London and go around the city, it’s going to be an important game for us.

“We have a tough schedule before we head there so, we’re going to have to make sure that we’re ready to play when we get there”.

Vucevic on the European Clash…

One player which Vucevic knows more about than most on the Raptors’ roster is fellow European, Jonas Valanciunas, who’s just returned to full fitness following a broken hand.

“We’ve played quite a few times now since we’ve been in the NBA, and also we’ve played against each other in our international teams so he’s a guy I know very well”. Said Vucevic.

“He’s a very good player, somebody that has improved a lot since he came to the NBA. He’s a huge guy, he takes up a lot of space [and is a] tough match-up.

“We always have good match-ups against each other and good games so it’ll be fun to go up against him”.

The Orlando Magic host the Toronto Raptors at The O2 in London on Jan. 14 as part of NBA Global Games London 2016. The game is live on BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Showcase or via NBA LEAGUE PASS (
