Top 50 NBA Players 2013/14 – #40 DeMarcus Cousins

DeMarcus Cousins

A new entry into our top 50 NBA players countdown this year is the Sacramento Kings mercurial big man DeMarcus Cousins.

When people look at the best centres in the league, most people pinpoint Joakim Noah, Dwight Howard or Marc Gasol, but DeMarcus Cousins also deserves his place in that discussion.

When looking at his statistics it makes some pretty good reading; 23ppg (the highest scoring centre in the league) and 12rpg (fifth best rebounder in the entire league), if you ask us for a grade there we’d have to give him an A.

Although defensively he lacks the athleticism and discipline to get himself up and protecting the rim, offensively he’s an absolute terror to deal with.

Questions have been raised about his attitude, and whilst this is proven by his uncanny ability to get himself a good few technical fouls over the season (16, before you ask), he’s still a force you’d rather have on your side than against you.

Given a decent body of teammates around him, Cousins could well be a part of a serious Playoff challenging team, getting to showcase his skills on the highest possible level.

If he works on his attitude just a little bit more, and maybe works slightly harder defensively, we could have a future NBA champ in DeMarcus Cousins, he has that kind of potential.

You can take a more in-depth look at DeMarcus Cousins’ potential in an article we’ve written on here.
