Top 50 NBA Players 2013/14 – #31 Serge Ibaka

Serge Ibaka

Defensive specialist Serge Ibaka is next in our countdown of the top 50 NBA countdown, after his exploits with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Ibaka has climbed in our rankings by a notable length since last season, and that mainly comes down to his continued presence inside the paint defensively, as well as his continued development at the other end of the floor.

Whilst Oklahoma don’t ask too much of Ibaka on offense, he’s worked hard to extend his shooting range to mid-range as well as from the three, particularly in the corners. This comes on top of a continued presence defensively, where he’s known as an eraser of anything that’s too tedious around the rim.

Averaging over 15ppg, Ibaka also brings in just under 9 rebounds every game, whilst sending away 2.7 shots each game. These numbers help anchor the defense for the Thunder, whilst his spot up shooting also helps create a decent third option after the likes of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

Ibaka is always in the running for defensive player of the year, but there is room for improvement offensively – however, he does seem like a good fit for Oklahoma City.
