Top 50 NBA Players #30 – Deron Williams

Deron Williams

Down 11 places since last year’s ratings, Deron Williams is next up in our countdown of the top 50 NBA players of 2013/14.

Williams was long considered one of the premier point guards in the league, but has seen his performances plateau over recent seasons, prompting this drop in our rankings.

Averaging 14.3ppg, 6.1apg and 1.5spg, Williams is still an effective force on the floor, but has failed to live up to the quality of the ‘golden era of point guards’.

He has however been a focal point for the Brooklyn Nets roster, and produces some valuable minutes for the team on every given night.

Sizing up at 6’3″, he’s one of the more sizeable point guards in the entire league, and Williams often uses this to his advantage when backing down opposition guards, but his streaky shooting has become rather suspect.

Depending on which Deron Williams decides to turn up, opposing teams can find themselves with an on the mark three point shooter and offensive juggernaught, or a seemingly disinterested player that would rather move the ball to others.

If D-Will does become more consistent he could well find himself heading the right way in our countdown. However, at the moment he seems to be on the decline, albeit one against some of the best point guards in the history of the game…
