Nets’ Star Brook Lopez Opts Out

Brook Lopez

Brooklyn Nets Centre Brook Lopez has officially opted out of his player option and will test free agency waters this off-season.

Lopez has had his fair share of injury problems throughout his career, however this season he’s been fit for the majority, and has been one of the Nets’ most productive players.

The centre was due $16.7m if he chose to opt in, however after one of his best years so far, he’s very likely to make more than that having opted out.

Brooklyn has already stated that it plans to re-sign Lopez, with him being the closest thing it has to a franchise player, however he’s also likely to have talks with other teams as well.

Some of the big names being linked with Lopez include the L.A. Lakers, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics, whilst the Milwaukee Bucks will also see themselves as a team in the running to get his signature.

However, the Nets seem the front runners to secure the big man’s services, as the team looks to push on and challenge in the playoffs once again.

The seven-footer averaged 17.2ppg and 7.4rpg this season, and although his defensive deficiencies have been noted, he’s still considered one of the best offensive big men in the league.

Lopez will likely table some meetings over the coming weeks and make a decision in due course, however he can expect to be a fairly busy man during this off-season.
