Orlando Magic Point Guard, Elfrid Payton expects to be 100% fit when he travels to the O2 Arena in London to face the Toronto Raptors.

The second year guard has missed several games recently due to a niggling ankle issue, but is still likely to feature in the UK based regular season game against the Toronto Raptors.

The former Louisiana-Lafayette star has been a regular player in the blue and white pinstripes since being drafted, playing all 82 games last season, before starting all previous 34 games this year until picking up the problem.

However, Payton doesn’t plan on riding the bench on his first trip to London with the Magic:

“I have been to Europe but not to London (yet). I do expect to play in London, I should be fully healthy by then.

“I think it’s exciting and a good look for the NBA. It is just going to be different for us [playing abroad]. I expect a good reception, I think we have a good following over there so I am excited to play in front of the fans over there”.

Payton on the Raptors…

However, he knows that it’s not going to be an easy task, toppling a resurgent Toronto Raptors team which has really found its stride this season – and is expecting a tough game against the Canadian franchise.

“They are a good, experienced, playoff team. They have two really good players who can get to the foul line and cause you problems in (DeMar) DeRozan and (Kyle) Lowry, and then they have the inside threat of (Jonas) Valanciunas.

“We just have to stick to what we do and make sure that we’re getting stops and not get caught in transition”.

Whether Payton and his teammates can manage that is another question – but it’s certainly looking like both teams could make for one of the most exciting NBA London games in recent years…

The Orlando Magic host the Toronto Raptors at The O2 in London on Jan. 14 as part of NBA Global Games London 2016. The game is live on BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Showcase or via NBA LEAGUE PASS (www.nba.tv).
