Why isn’t Lebron Entering the Dunk Contest?

Lebron James All Star Dunk

With the recent announcement of the NBA Dunk Contest contestants, we were pleasantly surprised by some of the players that we would be seeing in New Orleans this Saturday, but a certain someone was still missing, one Lebron James.

We’ve always wanted to see Lebron James take his talents to the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, but it’s something we’ve never had the chance to see.

Obviously Lebron is a tremendous dunker, we’ve seen him showcase these skills since his rookie season, but why hasn’t he showcased these skills on an All-Star Saturday night level? Probably because Lebron feels it’s a no win situation.

If Lebron goes into the contest and fails to impress, suddenly all of the haters will crawl out of the woodwork and restart the ‘Lebron James sucks’ train, whilst if he goes in and wins, we’ll all say we knew he would do it, giving him next to no credit.

Lebron has clearly thought about this and decided that the Dunk Contest might not be for him, and if so, it’s an admirable decision, but then you look at some of the videos getting out from Miami Heat training and think ‘why show us this?!’.

If Lebron is thinking about practicing his dunking skills, then why not go out, forget the haters and just show the world exactly what you’ve got when playing above the rim, without a defender to worry about.

Whilst we definitely want to see Lebron take to the Dunk Contest, but whether we actually see him ever take to it is another question…
