Brotherly love is going to be have to put on the back burner for the Hernangomez duo as the NBA’s latest family are set to go face to face.

Willy Hernangomez who plays for the New York Knicks goes head to head with his brother Juancho Hernangomez who plays for the London-bound Denver Nuggets – and despite growing up together, won’t be taking things easy.

The New York Knicks rookie spoke about having a brother in the league and how they helped each other develop.

“My brother and I had great friends. We had great friends back home. When I was playing in the ACB, we built our relationship more. We had better chemistry.

“Now, it’s crazy. We’re both rookies in the NBA in the same year. For us, It’s a dream come true. We try to talk every day, but sometimes it’s difficult.”

Despite achieving their dream, the work has only just started for the Hernangomez brothers.

“We have to keep working hard and stay passionate. We know we are rookies. This isn’t going to be easy. We have to work hard like we always have.”

“We started playing when I was about 15. Our parents told us to think about basketball. So, we started playing basketball on the weekend.

“We tried to learn basketball shots and all the different things. We realized we liked basketball and started practicing.”

Both being raised in Spain, the Hernangomez brothers draw natural comparisons to the Gasol brothers, and the 6’11” Knicks centre is more than happy with the comparison.

“We feel great about that. Everybody is saying maybe we can be the next Gasol brothers. We both know it’s going to be difficult.

“The Gasol brothers are one-of-a-kind. They are legends. They’re superstars in the NBA. We’re rookies. We have to build our way in the NBA.

“We’re focusing on working hard. So maybe in 10 years, people will say there is another set of [international] brothers in the NBA – not just the Gasol brothers.”

Juancho Hernangomez is averaging just under 11mpg for the Nuggets and is likely to feature for the Colorado franchise when they make the trip to London to face the Indiana Pacers.

The Denver Nuggets host the Indiana Pacers at The O2 in London on Jan. 12 as part of NBA Global Games London 2017. The game is live on BT Sport or via NBA LEAGUE PASS (www.nba.tv).
