Big Al and Bobcats secure playoff position

Al Jefferson Bobcats

What a season it has been for the team in North Carolina, the Charlotte Bobcats have clinched a playoff spot for the 2nd time in the teams history. Yes, that’s right, the 2nd time for the franchise, all thanks to their main scoring option Al Jefferson.

The 6″10 center posted a double-double against the Cleveland Cavaliers to help the Bobcats get the ‘W’ in a dramatic game which went to overtime , that saw an amazing display from Kyrie Irving with 44 points but eventually finishing 96-94, which seems to be a decisive road win for Charlotte as they try to hunt down the Washington Wizards ¬†tonight in a crucial eastern conference battle.

The Wizards currently take up the sixth seed and seem to be the team everyone wants to avoid with the likes of John Wall at the one and the Polish hammer Marcin Gortat playing center, but their season has had its ups and downs, only winning 8 out of 16 in march.

One of these losses was at the hands of the Bobcats on march 31st, ending 94-100.

But with the 7th seeded team coming off the back of that huge win, anything is possible in the capital on Wednesday.

The buzz around the NBA however seems to put a dimmer on their achievement, as many believe they are not playoff material.

The Boston Celtics and New York Knicks have started a late climb for the playoffs, while considering the names they have on show, it’s no surprise why many feel that these teams should have shown better quality of basketball, so the door was left wide open for Charlotte to capitalize on other teams downfalls, as the Celtics and Knicks couldn’t pull a string of wins together to build momentum for their seasons to kick-start.

The Eastern conference may give fans a surprise, it is full of variety; The flare and skill shown by the Miami heat, true grit and determination the Indiana Pacers hold, the young and charismatic team of the Toronto Raptors , the brutal strength the Chicago Bulls have on offer along with the experienced side of the Brooklyn Nets.

This years playoffs are surely not to be missed!

As Jefferson received player of the week for march 31st , it showed the possibility of the Bobcats being a threat in the playoffs, but they would need more fire power to actually scare those around them, a versatile utility guy may do the trick such as Jimmy Butler who can become the main man as well as taking the pressure off Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson for scoring, as the shooting guard hasn’t found his feet in Chicago with the other starters taking control of the Bulls.

If they make the right trades in the off-season or good draft choices, Charlotte could look to be real contenders for the upcoming season.
